I was a litigator from my call to the bar in 1982 until 1998 when I left active practice to work in alternative dispute resolution. During my time as a litigator I was lead chair in trials of personal injury claims, insurance disputes, wrongful dismissals, commercial contracts, commercial landlord - tenant matters, oppression claims and estate disputes.
In 1998 I attended mediation training at CDR Associates, Boulder, Colorado, and in 1999 I received advanced mediation training with the Law Society of Ontario in Toronto.
As a Deputy Judge in Small Claims Court from 1999 to 2023, and as a vice-chair/adjudicator with the Ontario Licence Appeal Tribunal from 1997 to 2021, I presided over hundreds of trials, hearings (LAT), motions and settlement conferences.
Since 1998 I have conducted over 2,700 mediations in personal injury/tort actions, accident benefits claims, wrongful dismissals, labour matters, commercial matters and estate disputes.
FEES
THE FEE FOR A STANDARD 3 HOUR, TWO PARTY MEDIATION IS $975.
FOR EACH ADDITIONAL PARTY THE BASE FEE WILL BE INCREASED BY $150.
All fees will be divided equally between the parties, unless the parties agree otherwise.
Additional time beyond 3 hours for a half-day mediation will be charged at $275 per hour.
Cancellation fees
If a 3 hour mediation is cancelled with less than 31 days notice PRIOR to the scheduled mediation date
- $475.
If a mediation is cancelled on the day of the mediation
- $975 for a half-day mediation.
- All fees are subject to HST.
